Cinema and Media Studies hosted their Trivia Night for their Winter Quarter Social last month! The evening was well enjoyed, as undergraduates, graduates, friends, and faculty all came to connect, eat pizza, and compete. Professor Warren Etheredge hosted the event with good energy, and had exceptional help scorekeeping from students: Alexis Caplan, Mara Fell, Alex Ren, and Liberty White.
Jess Forman, a CMS major, reflects on the event:
Held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, CMS trivia night was an event to remember. Students like myself all gathered in the Denny Room of Oak Hall to test our film knowledge. It was a great place to meet people and have funtalking about movies. The questions were great, the food was good, and the competition was even better.
Attending the CMS trivia night was my first time at a campus event like this, and I was apprehensive about my film knowledge. I love movies, but I worried the questions would be too niche to answer confidently. From the first question, however, I realized that my fears were unfounded. While some questions were definitely impossible for my team to answer, most had just the right amount of challenge.
The prizes were lacking, I'll admit, but attempting to beat the faculty team was enough to keep competition going strong. Spirits were always high, and celebrating with your team after a correct guess was definitely well worth it. Even if my team got a question wrong, we still worked together to a reach a halfway-decent answer. I know I definitely learned some details about movies I didn't know before, so I take that as a win. A highlight of the evening was definitely the poke face the score keepers put on when my whole team knew the answer we gave was a reach. And I must add that the game show host, who was none other than CMS professor Warren Etheredge, tricked us one too many times when revealing answers. Despite his shenanigans, he kept energy and suspense high.
I will definitely study up on my film knowledge and eagerly await the next CMS trivia night!
