Congratulations to graduate student Sarah Choi for winning third place in the Society of Cinema & Media Studies (SCMS) student writing competition! Her essay, “Life, Death, or Something in Between: Photographic Taxidermy in Get Out (2017)” explores the relationship between photography and taxidermy in the film as well as in the work of photographer Zoe Leonard. The SCMS student writing award “recognizes graduate students who show outstanding ability in the field of film, television, and media scholarship in keeping with the disciplinary concerns and traditions of moving image and sound studies.” Sarah was presented the award at the 2021 SCMS virtual conference in March. A video of her award presentation can be viewed here!
Again, congratulations Sarah!
