Biography
Rin Huang (they/she) is a current Cinema and Media Studies graduate student at the University of Washington with a certificate in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) Studies. Their research interests lie between STS, media studies, and critical infrastructure studies. A key question that guides their academic focus is how technologies, especially those related to travel, space, and mobility, participate in the contemporary world-making process and contribute to a promising/questionable globalization imagination. With special attention paid to cartography, computational images, and digital media infrastructure involved, their recent papers touched on topics including CT scanning machines for airport security checks, and U.S. aviation maps from 1920s to 2000s.
Before coming to the University of Washington, they received a B.A. in English and minor in Philosophy at Fudan University with a visiting year at Columbia University.
In their spare time, they enjoy video games from the Ska Studios and Team Cherry, New Hollywood neo-noir films, and PNW local breweries.
