Biography
Jingrui (Rey) is a second-year PhD student in Cinema and Media Studies at the University of Washington. Her research explores production modes, creative processes, and labor practices in media and art. Previously, she worked as an archive manager at the Chinese Modern Art Archives in Beijing and as an assistant editor for the Journal of Chinese Cinemas.
Her database project “Women’s Labor in Chinese Cinema” has been supported by the Simpson Center for Humanities (2024 Digital Humanities Summer Fellow). She also received funding from the Top Scholar Award (2023). She co-organized the Graduate Research Cluster “Technology, Labor, and Gender” (2024 Fall, funded by the Simpson Center) and the Graduate Conference “Mediating Experiences, Experiencing Mediation” at UW (2024 Spring, funded by Cinema & Media Studies).
