Biography
Hi, there!
My name is Hongyan Sun. After getting my Ph.D. in animation from the Communication University of China in 2018, I returned to my hometown and joined the Department of Film and Television, School of Literature and Journalism, Qingdao University.
I am currently working on a grant project on visual rhetoric in Chinese animation. More specifically, I am preparing to work on two topics: (1) the cross-media adaptation of Chinese animation from text to moving images across different historical periods. (2) the cross-cultural communication of contemporary Chinese animation (illustrated through one or two case studies that incorporates a questionnaire survey).
In addition, my research interests include digital and interactive media, media technology theory and stop-motion animation.
I teach courses on Digital Media Theory and Criticism, History of Chinese Films, History of World Animation, Film and Television Aesthetics, Stop-motion Animation. I also serve as an online short-film reviewer for the Shandong Provincial Administration of Radio and Television in Qingdao.
In my spare time, I enjoy work out, and right now I’m just getting started with dance.
