First-year PhD student Soo Hee Kang gave a talk at the first "Thesis Pieces" event, held on September 20th at the King County Library System's Issaquah branch.
"Thesis Pieces" aims to ignite academic passion in local teens and to provide UW graduate students with an opportunity to hone their public speaking skills. Three graduate students from various disciplines, linguistics, music, and cinema & media studies, presented at this event.
Soo Hee presented an abridged version of her Master's thesis, written during her time at the University of Texas at Austin. Titled "Anti-K: Swimming Against the Korean Wave," this talk introduced teens to alternative Korean popular culture that might not be considered part of the Korean Wave.
