Current Doctoral student Calac Nogueira's video essay, "The Hand that Touches the Arm" was recently published in [in]Transition (12:1, winter 2025), the open peer reviewed academic journal published by the Open Library of Humanities (OLH) and owned by the Society for Cinema and Media Studies . [in]Transition: Journal of Videographic Film & Moving Image Studies encourages scholars to write using moving images and sounds and publishes work that contributes to both the knowledge of film and media studies and the videographic form.

AbstractThe Hand That Touches the Arm examines man-woman interactions in Hollywood films ranging from the 1930s to the early 1960s. By highlighting the different ways men touched women’s arms, hands, shoulders, or elbows, the film reviews the gender dynamics that marked classical Hollywood cinema, drawing attention to their coercive nature.
