Congratulations, Marshall Brown!

Marshall Brown will be retiring at the end of this academic year after nearly 30 years at the University of Washington. Friends gathered on Friday, May 20, to thank him and wish him well.

Marshall didn't want a retirement gift. Rather, he challenged the faculty to raise $5,000 in support of graduate students -- an amount that, if met, he and his wife Jane would match. The goal is to raise $50,000 over five years, all for the purpose of graduate support. At the party, it was announced that we met our first goal, with more than two dozen faculty members contributing!

For the coming years, Marshall will remain at his post as editor of the Modern Language Quarterly.

Congratulations, Marshall!
