A Memorial and Reception will be held at 4:00 pm on Saturday, 22 June, in Kane Hall 210 on the University of Washington's Seattle campus, to remember and celebrate the life of Professor Herb Blau, who died on 3 May 2013, his 87th birthday.

As theater director, scholar, historian, and theorist, Herbert Blau was without doubt one of American theater's most influential personalities. An innovator and an iconoclast, he played a formative role in late-twentieth-century American theater, founding San Francisco's Actor's Workshop and New York's Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, and helping shape the curriculum and direction of the California Institute of the Arts as its first Provost.
We have been particularly fortunate that he chose to spend the final years of a truly distinguished career at the University of Washington, where he made his presence felt as a the Byron W. and Alice L. Lockwood Professor Emeritus of the Humanities, as Professor of English and Comparative Literature, and Adjunct Professor of Drama.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew, and learned from, him--as we all have.
