NEW HOLLYWOOD
This course provides an introduction to New Hollywood cinema, with particular emphasis on its origins in the 1960s and development in the 1970s. It will consider both the new economic model that emerges after the decline of the classical studio system and the aesthetic experiments of the period. Key figures covered in the course will include Arthur Penn, Warren Beatty, Mike Nichols, John Cassavetes, Dennis Hopper, Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas, Robert Altman, Sidney Lumet, Roman Polanski, and Woody Allen, among many other directors, actors, writers, and producers.
