Cable television is over 100 years old.
In this course we will explore the long history of cable television: its technology, business practices, and programming. Topics include: early experiments in synchronizing sound to image; community access and the rise of niche programming; pay-per-view; HBO and the rise of prestige television; and the "platinum age" of television.
Catalog Description:
Covers issues, problems, and themes in the history of televsion. Topic may include changes in television styles and representional forms, television's historical relationship with other media, transitions from broadcast to satellite through cable and digital distribution, and television's changing audiences.
