Cinema and Media Studies at UW encourages creative work of all kinds, from independent student productions to in-class assignments to long-term projects. Several of our courses require creative projects, such as our screenwriting courses and courses in videographic criticism. Others include creative work as an option for assignments.

Many student productions are screened publicly at events, from Parent & Family Weekend to end of the year celebrations and area theaters.

Samples of creative work, as well as some footage of CMS events can be found on our Vimeo page.

The student-run production club, LUX, is also a hub for student film work.

Students looking for help financing their productions can apply to the CMS Filmmakers Fund.

The CMS Medialab offers support for editing and other digital video work.

Students may borrow equipment such as cameras, tripods, gimbals, and microphones and lighting from the CMS equipment library hosted by the Department of Communication.
