Great Directors: WERNER HERZOG
This course explores the making of Werner Herzog as a legendary filmmaker and cultural icon. Lectures and discussions will focus on his many films, from Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Nosferatu – The Vampyre to Grizzly Man and Cave of Forgotten Dreams. We will also consider some of Herzog’s related activities (publishing books, directing operas, acting in films) as well as the many parodies and self-parodies of him and his work, while questioning the very idea of the “great director” and its effects in film culture.
